Scarless tummy tuck not that scar-free
Many women dream of a scarless tummy tuck, but in fact it will always stay a dream. There is just no scarless tummy tuck. Modified abdominoplasty is what plastic surgeons ofter refer to when it comes to scars. This procedure is also not completely scar free, but the scars are much less pronounced than from a standard abdominoplasty.
But there are several question to be asked about the modified abdominoplasty.
Are you a candidate for a modified abdominoplasty?
The modified procedure is getting more and more chosen over the standard one but not everybody is a candidate for the mini tummy tuck. The modified abdominoplasty is recommended with problem areas only in the lower abdomen. Sudden weight loss and pregnancy are the most commonly causes of this abdomen problems. Also adressed with this method is the issue of puching fat resulting from the weakened abdominal muscles.
How minimal is the scarring?
The skill of your plastic surgeon is the answer to this question. But generally the scar size is much small than scars from the standard abdominoplasty. You could even wear a bikini without worrying about the scar being visible.
The scar is mostly red and will protrude from the skin for the first six months after the surgery. This is common to all surgical scars. Before the scar becomes barely noticeable you might have to wait for a period of nine months up to a full year. One thing that goes the same with a “scarless” tummy tuck scar.
How does a mini tummy tuck differ from a standard one?
The amount of scarring is on of the biggest differences between the standard and the modified abdominoplasty. The latter often needs an incision a third lesser than the full tummy tuck. This also helps the patients to recover faster from the surgery. But you should notice that the results will not be that drastic with the mini method as only the lower abdomen will be repaired.
Now you can see why the scarless tummy tuck is not scarless at all. It just reduces the scarring to a minimum.
